"Det er et stort potensial i å utnytte teknologi til å lose trafikken gjennom byene i rushtiden. I dag brukes bomstasjonene mest til å sende folk en faktura. Vi kan bruke denne teknologien til å gi bilistene innspill om hvor de bør kjøre for å unngå kø og finne parkeringsplasser."
I Storbritannia har politikerne sluppet løs offentlig data - inkludert trafikkdata - på nettstedet data.gov.uk og gjort det gratis å bruke denne informasjonen til hva som helst.
Gordon Brown om politiker-initiativet:
"In a short space of months we have now created data.gov.uk which already opens over 2,500 data sets to enable people to hold us to account and make decisions about their public services – from monitoring traffic accidents locally to seeing how your local schools are performing. But this is just the start of creating new, more transparent public services and public sector bodies."
"A myriad of applications are being developed on the web by citizens for citizens – new websites on health, education, crime and local communities – that inform, enrich and enliven our democracy. It is truly direct democracy in action."
